Q. What is your favorite experience as an Alumni Association volunteer?

A. It's hard to point to one experience that's a favorite. Every time I'm with fellow alumni, I'm energized by their enthusiasm for the school in which they attended. Homecoming is probably my favorite experience on campus - the alumni meet and talk about how to expand our reach, how to stay connected and how to support the U. It's a great way to kick off a year of activities. Everyone I’ve met has been welcoming and inclusive and they make volunteering fun!

Q. Why do you volunteer?

A. I volunteer because I want to make a difference in the lives of students who are getting ready to enter the workplace. The experience students have at the U form their future and their success can be influenced by a network of people who can help them. The Alumni Association has plans to give students a step up during their experience at the U and as they start their careers. I want to be part of that.

Q. Why would you encourage others to volunteer?

A. As alumni we should all want the University to grow and succeed. By volunteering we can help shape the future of the University, we can expand our connections across the globe and create one of the largest alumni networks in the Big 10. We all bring different talents to the table and the diversity of our experience can help the next generation of graduates succeed. Let's leave the University a better place than when we attended!

Q. Share some alumni words of wisdom.

A. While I was going to school, I'm not sure I understood the prestige or significance of graduating from the University of Minnesota. The U has long record of top rated programs and naturally opens doors for their alumni; the U wants to make students successful. Students should take advantage of that and use the resources available. Get involved in campus activities, build a network of contacts and it will make a difference in their career and life.
