The Cannabis Conundrum

Just as good looks and big brains are inherited from our parents, botanical genes code for flowers, fragrances, and flavors. Cannabis has been cultivated for thousands of years for durable fibers, nutritious seeds, and psychoactive drugs. Most Cannabis research in the United States focuses on the effect of the drug on the human body but there is much more to Cannabis than the drug. Weiblen is one of few researchers permitted by the federal government to study the genetics of this plant and his research challenges opinions on all sides of the public debate about marijuana.
