Responding to Trauma

This session will highlight the nature and conduct of trauma-response teams. Drawing from his experiences as a team-leader in fieldwork across small-scale (e.g., fatal accidents, murders) and large-scale incidents (e.g., 9/11 terrorist attacks, 35-W bridge collapse, tornadoes, tsunamis, hurricanes), the presenter will discuss: 1) common psychological responses to disasters; 2) ethical challenges inherent within this type of work; and 3) targeted attention to mitigating compassion fatigue and burnout among team members.
