Join the St. Croix Valley Alumni Network for a thought-provoking speaking event featuring Dr. Marek Oziewicz.
Marek Oziewicz is Professor of Literacy Education at the University of Minnesota and holds the Sidney and Marguerite Henry Chair in Children’s and Young Adult Literature at the College of Education and Human Development. He teaches how children’s literature and young adult speculative fiction shape who we are, individually and culturally. His current research focuses on how children’s literature today prepares readers for globalization and “justice consciousness” – the way justice is attained after it has first been imagined as possible. Marek is an internationally known author and editor who is co-editing a book with a colleague from Penn State. He also chairs an international committee of the Children’s Literature Association, which encourages U.S. scholars to incorporate in their course materials works originally written in languages other than English and to incorporate international scholarly perspectives.
