East River Flats Park
REGISTRATION AND ADDITIONAL INFORMATION HERE
This volunteer event is with the National Park Service
and the Mississippi Park Connection
East River Flats Park offers one of the few opportunities within the urbanized portion of the Mississippi River Gorge to easily access, interact with and view the river from a point below the bluff line. The park is situated below 25-foot limestone bluffs and lies upon relatively flat deposits on the inner side of a large bend in the river and just below the University of Minnesota. It is the site of the boathouse for the U of M’s women’s rowing team and is also the launch point for the Canoemobile program, which introduces thousands of young people to the Mississippi River and canoeing each year.
Volunteers will be maintaining raingardens by removing invasive plant species that have taken over and are out-competing native plant varieties. As a secondary activity, volunteers will also be picking up trash. Mississippi Park Connection and the National Park Service will provide all tools and gloves.
All volunteers must be 18+.
